blunder

The word of the week is blunder.

Blunder is a noun.

A blunder is a silly or careless mistake.

If you are too hasty when doing work in the classroom, you might make a blunder, like forgetting to put your name on your paper.

I made a blunder when I forgot to put sugar in the chocolate chip cookies I baked. They tasted terrible!

Sometimes people call me Mrs. Horton instead of Ms. Hunter! That is an easy blunder to make, since our names are similar.

Have you ever made a blunder? Tell me about it!

cherish

Happy Valentine's Day, first grade! This week's word is a perfect word for Valentine's Day: cherish!

The word of the week is cherish.

Cherish is a verb.

Cherish means to care for or to feel love for.

When we cherish someone, it means that we care about someone, or that someone is special to us. I know you all cherish your friends and family! Here are some special people that I cherish:

I cherish my friend Mrs. Abell because she is a good listener.

I cherish my brother Matt because we do fun things together. This is a picture of my brother acting silly on our trip to Belize.

I cherish the high school students in the youth group at church because they are really good at serving others. Here is a picture of the youth group on a mission trip.

I cherish the first graders at St. George's because they are good friends to each other!

Who do you cherish? Write a comment that tells someone you cherish and why you cherish that person!

hasty

Hi first grade! I made a new video this week, so we'll try it and see if it works. Remember--if you can't watch the video in your classroom, you can still view it at home with mom or dad. You can also read about the word below and leave a comment.

The word of the week is hasty.

Hasty is an adjective. It means "done quickly or with little thought." Hasty can also mean "fast."

Being hasty is not always a good thing. If you are hasty when doing your homework or seat work, you could make careless mistakes. If you are hasty while baking, you could forget to add an important ingredient.

The opposite of being hasty is being careful or taking your time.

Click the play arrow below to watch a video about the word hasty. Then leave a comment. When was a time that you were hasty?
